| Hucknall People Make the Connection |

SHOPS are benefiting from the connect bus service that links Hucknall’s estates with the town centre.
New research has revealed that one third of passengers on the route are visiting the town centre more often since the high-frequency buses began in January.
Twice as many people on board the buses are using them to reach local shops as those going on into Nottingham by connecting to either the rainbow 3 bus service from the town centre or the tram.
Melvyn Hopwood, at trentbarton, said: “While the link to our own rainbow 3 service and the tram is important, we are delighted that local shops are benefiting from the new bus service.”
When connect was launched, there was much support from local councils and local businesses for a bus service that was described as a “model of integration”.
At the time, the number of buses between the estates and the town centre was doubled, and the evening and Sunday timetables were greatly improved. All buses now serve the tram station in the town centre.
The independent research – carried out during the summer by Research and Marketing Associates – confirmed the importance of the new buses.
One in every nine passengers is using the bus when they previously drove their cars, and those travelling only into Hucknall town centre particularly valued its speed, frequency and convenience.
