PRESS RELEASE (21 June 2007)

X38 non-stop..... The first beer named after a bus

A NEW beer from the home town of British brewing? No surprise there, except that it’s almost certainly the first beer ever to be named after a bus.

X38 Non-Stop is the latest seasonal real ale from the Burton Bridge Brewery, highlighting the speedy bus service between Burton and Derby.

The summer brew will be launched at next month’s Derby Beer Festival by the Mayor of Derby Pauline Latham OBE. In fact, it will be the first barrel to be opened at the event on Wednesday 11 July.

Geoff Mumford, who founded the Burton Bridge Brewery 25 years ago, said: “X38 Non-Stop is a beautiful beer for the long summer months. Golden coloured with citrus flavours, it has a well-rounded bitterness, and a hoppy nose.”

The 4% ABV seasonal ale will be available in three pubs in Burton – the Devonshire Arms (“The Devvy”), the Bridge Inn, which is beside the brewery, and the Prince Albert.

As a bonus for X38 passengers, they can get 10% off lunchtime food in the three pubs by showing a valid ticket showing that day’s date.

Sarah Taylor, from bus operator trentbarton, said: “The great success of the Burton-Derby X38 service led to it being doubled in frequency this year to one bus every 15 minutes. The bus takes just 25 minutes along the A38, making it quicker than the car when the time spent parking is taken into account. Now that is worth raising a glass to!”
