PRESS RELEASE (05 August 2008)

Passengers Choose Change On Their Buses

Bus passengers in congestion-hit Heanor have opted to have bus routes around the town revised to keep the service as punctual as possible.

The changes affect the H1 service between Heanor and Derby which carries 10,000 passengers every week.

Bus company managers from trentbarton asked their customers if the buses should take a shorter route around the back of Heanor Market Place and on the hourly leg to Alfreton, with some buses running non-stop to Alfreton via Swanwick rather than Somercotes.

H1’s brand manager Jay Keily said: “Our customers were wholly supportive of the plan which we will adopt from 31 August. Worsening traffic congestion around Heanor caused us to re-think the popular H1 route, and we asked passengers for their opinions. Their priority was punctuality.

“We'd far sooner not be making any changes at all, but without bus priority measures to help keep vital bus links like the H1 running smoothly, it's a matter of damage limitation.”

Passengers are attracted to H1’s direct route as it’s so much more convenient than driving to Derby and cuts out the hassle of parking. The journey takes just 25 minutes.
