| £1 Million Investment in New Buses |
| |
DERBY is to benefit from an injection of more than £1 million in new buses.
The brand-new vehicles will go on to The Mickleover service early next year.
Ian Morgan, commercial director of trentbarton, said: “We have been most encouraged by the decision by councillors in Derby to make the bus lane in Duffield Road permanent.
“This kind of commitment to the future of public transport in Derby re-assures us about our business’s continued investments in bus services in the city.
“We are pleased to confirm the new buses for The Mickleover service in 2009. These will be the cleanest and most comfortable buses that Derby has ever seen.”
All eight of the new buses – which cost £145,000 each - are air-conditioned and environmentally state-of-the-art in terms of low emissions. As standard, they have double-glazing, and are wheelchair and buggy friendly.
They also come with leather seats and wood laminate floors, creating an interior that would normally be associated with a high street coffee shop.
Britain’s top bus design company came up with the look.
“Buses are no different from shops and we want to match the standards of retailers, so we have tried to incorporate some of the sought-after ambience and atmosphere of a coffee shop,” said designer Ray Stenning, of Best Impressions.
