PRESS RELEASE (13 July 2009)

Picture this - passengers promote the buses

IT’S not a compliment to be likened to one, but 13 passengers on one bus service are to have their photographs displayed on ‘the back end of a bus’.

In a first, the rear panel of all 13 new buses on the nines service between Mansfield and Derby will spotlight a regular passenger with their picture and a few words explaining why they are ‘on the bus’.

The route has just benefited from a £1.3 million investment in new vehicles.

Each is environmentally state-of-the-art in terms of low emissions. As standard, they all have double-glazing and are wheelchair and buggy friendly. Each bus comes with leather seats and the trentbarton designer interior, creating an environment that would normally be associated with a high street coffee shop.

Potential recruits for the campaign are signing up at www.trentbarton.co.uk/thenines.

Sarah Taylor, at trentbarton, said: “This is a very popular bus service, much loved by its regular passengers. Bus travel is best promoted by those who use the buses – and this is an opportunity for our passengers to explain what they value in the service.”

On the nines:

> Buses run every 15 minutes from Sutton-in-Ashfield to Mansfield;

> The East Midlands Designer Outlet at junction 28 of the M1 has a bus every 30 minutes from Alfreton, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield;

> An extra bus - 9.3 - runs from Ripley fast to Derby every hour on the A38, providing Leabrooks and Somercotes and all stops in Ripley and Marehay with a fast bus to Derby;

> MANGO smart cards, which give a 25% saving on single cash fares using GPS technology, can be used, speeding up boarding times and leading to better timekeeping.
