| Latest new buses hit the streets of Ilkeston |
| |
THE first buses in a £1.6 million investment linking Ilkeston and Nottingham are to hit the streets for the first time.
The trentbarton bus company is putting 16 brand new, state of the art buses with their new yellow livery on to the new the two service which replaces rainbow 2 from Sunday 24 July.
They will be very comfortable and posh buses. Each has a designer exterior and interior, with double-glazing and air conditioning, as well as low-emission engines. They all come with leather seats, creating an environment that would normally be associated with a high street coffee shop.
The service runs every 12 minutes during the day from Cotmanhay and Ilkeston into Nottingham.
MANGO smart cards, which give a 25% saving on single cash fares using GPS technology, will be able to be used, speeding up boarding times and leading to better timekeeping.
The new the two service is part of an overall £6 million investment by trentbarton in new buses during 2009 and comes despite the economic downturn.
Sarah Taylor, marketing manager of trentbarton, said: “Like most businesses we are being affected by aspects of the recession, but it would be short sighted not to continue the policy of investing in our fleet that has served us so well over more than 20 years.
“Passengers want clean, modern buses in which to travel for work and leisure. We have one of the youngest fleets in Britain, and that position will be strengthened as this major investment in the bus service between Ilkeston and Nottingham shows.”
The new look for the buses on the two service was produced by Britain’s top bus design company.
“Buses are no different from shops and we want to match the standards of retailers, so we have tried to incorporate some of the sought-after ambience and atmosphere of a coffee shop,” said designer Ray Stenning, of Best Impressions.
