PRESS RELEASE (22 December 2003)

Long Eaton Bus Service Reaches the Heights

LONG Eaton can celebrate the New Year with one of the most modern and advanced bus services in Britain.

Already it’s won a national award because so many people from the town are passengers!

They’ve helped to make rainbow 5 one of the few bus services in the land that has actually grown in the last 40 years.

Passenger numbers on the route to Nottingham, Derby and East Midlands Airport have soared since 1997 from 2.7 million to 4 million a year. The nine buses per hour on the route between Long Eaton and Nottingham makes it the highest frequency service in the history of the trentbarton bus company.

rainbow 5 scooped the top marketing prize at the UK Bus Industry Awards with praise for every single driver on the service being involved in the plans to improve it further, including a £2.5 million investment in new buses with swish new interiors.

Cherryl Holland, the brand manager for rainbow 5, said: “We’ve just carried out extensive research among our customers to make sure that we are serving them as well as we can, and we’re thrilled with the findings.

“Better still, almost one in three passengers is leaving their car at home, preferring to use the bus to get into Nottingham and Derby from Long Eaton. And two in every three said it was better to travel by bus than use the car and have to find a parking space.

“We have more exciting developments to announce too in the New Year!”
