PRESS RELEASE (23 July 2004)

Overnight Success for the Late Buses

DERBY’S nightlife is such a draw for Burton clubbers that they’ve turned new late buses into an overnight success story.

The bus services to the Staffordshire town in the early hours at weekends were introduced only in the spring. And they’re already a big hit in clubland.

Not so long ago private cars and taxis were the only ways to travel out of Derby by road after 11pm.

Now there is a steady stream of buses to Heanor until half past midnight, to Burton until 2.30am, and to Spondon, Mickleover and Nottingham until 3am.

Sarah Taylor, at the trentbarton bus company, said: “The X38 service between Derby and Burton has always been popular during the daytime with shoppers.

“But since we extended the service into the early hours on Friday and Saturday nights it has become, as they say, an overnight success. It just goes to show that it’s all happening in Derby!”

The Spondon Night Flyer was launched on the same day in April as the extended X38 service, and it too has proved most popular, with the hourly departures until 3am all doing brisk business.
