PRESS RELEASE (02 September 2004)

£1 Million Investment is a Big Winner

A MILLION pound investment in new coaches between Derby and Nottingham is paying rich dividends.

Passengers are flocking to the four-an-hour Red Arrow express service between the two cities – 10,000 more every month than bus company trentbarton expected.

It’s good news for Nottingham because:

* There are fewer cars on the roads, and less congestion

* Shoppers are helping to boost city centre retailing rather than driving to edge-of-city stores.

Bus bosses are now planning a pre-Christmas festive shopping campaign to boost even further passenger numbers and city centre tills.

Melvyn Hopwood, at trentbarton, said: “Red Arrow has been a remarkable success story.

“The investment of eight new coaches at the start of 2004 was not without commercial risk, but the popularity of the service suggests that people are really beginning to appreciate the freedom from the hassle of driving and parking that the high quality Red Arrow offers them.”

Red Arrow’s air-conditioned coaches have on-board tables, and run into the evenings six days a week and into the early hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
